Liberty’s Kitchen is dedicated to transforming the lives of New Orleans youth by building self-sufficiency and independent living in a supportive community where our participants learn life, social and employability skills in a culinary setting.
We utilize our food service-based businesses to TEACH and provide experiential learning for participants in our Youth Development Program. This innovative program provides participants with comprehensive workforce and soft skills training along with an appreciation for quality, freshly-prepared food through direct experience in the operation of our café, catering and school lunch programs. Over 90% of our Youth Development Program participants are employed upon graduation and over 80% are still employed at the six month benchmark.
Liberty’s Kitchen is the only local food service-based organization that combines workforce development training for some of our most vulnerable youth while providing fresh and nutritious meals for low-income public schoolchildren.
At Liberty’s Kitchen, we know what it is to NOURISH bodies and minds through quality foodservice. In addition to our Youth Development Program, Liberty’s Kitchen operates the Healthy School Lunch Program which is pioneering the return of healthy, made-from-scratch meals to New Orleans low-income public schoolchildren. Our Healthy School Lunch Program is changing eating patterns among low-income children and proving that fresh nutritious food can be successfully served in schools. And because our Youth Development Program participants prepare and serve these nutritious meals, our programs intersect, creating a dual social purpose. These dual social benefits are boosting the work of Liberty’s Kitchen into the social vanguard for changing the eating habits and life prospects for youth and children in New Orleans.
The objective of Liberty’s Kitchen Youth Development Program is to graduate participants with a sense of purpose and the skills, tools and opportunities to thrive in gainful employment. Liberty’s Kitchen is committed to the future success of New Orleans youth who face barriers to employment.
All aspects of our holistic Youth Development Program are designed to EMPOWER each participant’s ability to achieve independence, self-sufficiency and ultimately successful employment. Our intensive attainment-based training program combines soft skills training, classroom instruction and on-the-job training in our retail foodservice, catering and school lunch program. Wrap around support services focus on social issues such as housing needs, day-care issues, educational services and financial literacy. Job placement means finding the right job for program graduates and to ensure success we provide graduate support services and additional reinforcement for a minimum of one full year after program completion.
